MSSC, a division of Mitsubishi Steel Mfg Co., Ltd is a World Class provider of automotive suspension components.
The Challenge
MSSC had been using SharePoint 2007 and 2010 farms and used for content management and collaboration. Both farms had a variety of stability issues. The goal was to migrate both farms to a new SharePoint 2013 farm, retaining all content, site design, forms, and migrate existing workflows. All with zero business interruption. Resources were scarce back in 2013 so it was a complex juggling act to plan a new farm and harvest existing resources. A project like this is complex for several reasons. First, 2007 cannot transition directly to 2013. It has to go through any versions that bridged the gap between the original platform being used and the release being updated to, which in this case meant that the data had to be lifted to a 2010 version before it could be brought up to 2013.
What We Did
We performed a deep assessment of the older farms, remediated existing issues, retracted solutions that were unused or incompatible with newer SharePoint versions. Their massive SharePoint farms many content databases and hundreds of sites, which all needed to be migrated to the newer version without losing critical data. SimpleSharepoint worked with MSSC to collaborate on timelines that made sense for everyone. The Application Services Team at SimpleSharepoint sent weekly updates to MSSC, keeping them informed of progress and next steps throughout the project.
- Installed new SharePoint farm and migrated legacy 2007 and 2013 farms (now at version 2016)
- Began a SharePoint managed support business relationship in 2003
- Applied custom branding to be similar to their public site "look and feel".
- Greatly enhanced information architecture and navigation via our custom web apps (Mega menus, simple tabs, welcome banner, and more).
- Began replacing "kludgy" dashboards with a modern methodology for better user experience and increased data in site.
The Result
SimpleSharepoint worked with MSSC to stabilize on one robust SharePoint farm, and change its approach to making IT investments using our ServerCare services. SimpleSharepoint offers ongoing and proactive support to MSSC through SharePoint Managed Services, Through these services, SimpleSharepoint is alerted to problems affecting MSSC's systems and can quickly begin remediation. SimpleSharepoint now serves as MSSC’s SharePoint partner, allowing the firm to have our team work with Operations, and QA teams to focus on SharePoint automations to its core business.
